About James

DWP

Having grown up in North London, I first started as a film journalist in 2007. Starting out with regional publications , within a year I was writing for publications all over the world, providing reviews, interviews with major film stars and insight into the film industry.

Currently, I am a film critic for Radio Times, London newspaper City AM, Picturehouse Recommends, BBC Oxford and Little White Lies. I am the Film Editor for American Express Essentials, and have written about film for Refinery 29, Canvas Grolsch, Red Bull and The Guardian.

In 2012 I began my broadcasting career for BBC Oxford, reviewing every week to this day as well as writing and presenting my own documentary in 2015. I’ve also appeared on sister stations BBC Berkshire, BBC 3 Counties, BBC London and BBC 5 Live. For a short while I provided analysis for LBC Radio.

In Television I have made appearances on BBC News’ South Today, and BBC One show Rip Off Britain. I have also hosted live cinema Q&A’s for Picturehouse cinema, The Oxford International Film Festival, and Peccadillo Pictures’ POUTFest LGBTQ+ festival.

Outside of film I write about travel, primarily for City AM and Baltic Airlines’ Magazine, Baltic Outlook. I also write on LGBTQ+ issues both in film and society, having contributed to the book “Purple Prose: Bisexuality In Britain”.

I view myself as fiercely ambitious, and aim to continue writing about film at a national and international level, in all forms of media. I believe the work on this site demonstrates my knowledge and passion for film, something that I believe is essential for compelling, thoughtful content.

I am always looking for new commissions, so if you are looking for a film writer please look around this site and get in contact via the methods below.

If you’re just here to read my reviews and articles, that’s fantastic too! Take a look around, feel free to get in contact, and thank you for visiting my site.
